The final act of ShowUP Montclair brings together everyone who has been showing up for the students of Montclair!

Dancing is a family affair for this much-loved and deeply-respected dance studio.  Co-founder and owner Shirlise McKinley-Wiggins launched this enterprise with her late husband, James Wiggins, and together they created a space that focuses as much on nurturing confident, thoughtful people as developing talented dancers. Son James and daughter Vanessa, both MHS alums, grew up dancing in the studio and continue to perform and teach at Premiere.

Joe Colwell is a MHS sophomore and a rising star! Catch this bright light now so you can say you knew him when. He sings with The Passing Notes at Montclair High School, has performed with the School of Rock House Band, and hosted the Youth Open Mic at Trend Coffee Shop. During Covid, he's been writing original material both on his own and with friends. He's premiering an original song, "Dreams" at ShowUP and will be performing at the ShowUP VIP pre-party and on the main "stage!"

Get ready to be amazed! Our beloved Hillside music teacher is not only an award-winning music educator - he's also a piano virtuoso. After 18 years of working as a music director at Hillside Gifted and Talented School, Mr. Park knows a thing or two about how music heals the soul, particularly for our young children.  He has worked with legions of students in chorus, the renowned Traveling Troupe, and Play Production. Mr. Park's unique talent and infectious joy for teaching music to children has been recognized through his receipt of the Josh and Judy Weston Award for Excellence in Teaching and New Jersey State Teacher of the Year Award.

From The Voice stage to the MFEE ShowUP stage, we are so grateful to John Legend for training them and getting them ready to perform for you. These amazing twins have been singing together for, literally, their entire lives. As Kelly Clarkson noted, they have that special kind of harmony that you hear only in families.  The duo started out singing covers in their basement and posting them on YouTube, which led to an invite to The Voice's Season 17 last fall. They were chosen by both John Legend AND Blake Shelton, and performed as part of John Legend’s team, making it to the battle round.  They are so grateful for the experience which has fueled new songwriting and more beautiful the one you'll see at ShowUP!

Carmen Guthrie's smooth vocals are as beautiful as her sweet soul. This MHS alum bleeds blue, as she was raised in a family that is deeply committed to our community.  Carmen's dad, Garth Guthrie, is a long-time Montclair police officer, mentor, and community volunteer. Mom, Maddie, has been a passionate advocate for families, particularly Latinx families, through her leadership with Reaching Out Montclair.  Carmen has been singing for as long as she can remember. It is her primary outlet for expression and her salve during these trying times.

When Ivan Max’s fingers float over his flamenco guitar in a flurry of notes, you will be transported! He is a genuine Montclair talent who has lived here since he studied classical guitar at MSU in 1991. He began learning guitar when he was 9 years old in the Bronx, and he has been giving lessons since he was a teenager. Church Street Guitar Studio is 17 years old, and he has taught hundreds -- or even more -- to play guitar in Montclair. He currently gives lessons at Lacordaire Academy, as well as his studio.

Do you follow MFEE on Social Media?

Follow us on our Facebook and Instagram!

We keep talking about the people and businesses who are ShowingUP for our schools and our kids this Saturday, November 7th. But, who is ShowingUP for YOU, Montclair?

Give them a shout out on MFEE's Facebook or Instagram page. Highlight a friend or neighbor who is showing up in big or small ways (helping your kids manage virtual learning, an essential worker, doing some grocery trips for a neighbor, anything!). t's a great time to honor those people in our community who go above and beyond without even thinking about it.

Every person honored will be entered in a raffle to win one VIP ticket, which includes a hand-delivered gift basket, thanking him or her for ShowingUP for Montclair.
